Mapledurham Estate

Commission: Douch Biomass have installed 2 x Gilles 240kW HPKI-R biomass boilers with 2 x 4000lt buffer tanks to supply heat and hot water to the Manor House and office on the Mapledurham Estate. The second phase of the project will be to extend the district heating system to the 15 houses of Mapledurham village, this will be done in due course. There is weather compensated control of the flow temperature to minimise heat loss.

Boiler Type: 2 x Gilles 240kW HPKI-R

Fuel Type: Wood Chip

Fuel Storage: Two purpose built underground fuel silos

Case History: Mapledurham Estate were already well versed in renewable energy before installing biomass. The Archemides Mapledurham Watermill has an impressive Hydro Turbine and also still produces high-quality stone-ground flour to this day. The estate also has an Anaerobic Digestion Plant which takes the cow slurry from the farm (previously considered waste) and this is used to produce clean heat and power by anaerobic digestion.

The boilers were installed in a purpose-built boiler house with two underground wood chip silo’s. The use of underground silo’s allows the wood chip to be tipped directly into the silo from the delivery vehicle.
